A Scottish silver Quaich by Mackay & Chisholm of Edinburgh hallmarked 1929
An extremely handsome Scottish silver Quaich with makers initials "M&C" Mackay & Chisholm and hallmarked Edinburgh, 1929. There is a finally engraved rim both around the top of the bowl and around the base with cruciform handles.
There is room for an additional engraving if the Quaich was to be used as a presenation piece.

The word Quaich comes form the Gaelic word "cuach" (cup or bowl). It is often referred to as a friendship or love cup generally with two handles although 3 or 4 handle quaiches have been made. Sharing the cup demonstrates a trust between 2 individuals or groups of people. You can fill the cup with a drink of your choice however it is usually whisky.
