A fine antique silver and citrine paste stone thistle bookmark - makers initials ALLD who were the famous silversmiths Adie & Lovekin Ltd. The piece is hallmarked as Birmingham, 1916.
The firm became Adie & Lovekin Ltd in 1889 manufacturing a wide range of silver goods at their workshop in Regent Street, Hockley, Birmingham.

A paste stone is a synonym for glass when used in jewellery or ornament manufacture. Glass has been used as a gemstone imitation since ancient history for obvious reasons: it’s transparent, can be colored in many ways and resembles all kinds of gemstones when polished.
