  • Additional Product Information

The heart shaped penannular brooch has deep roots in original Celtic culture where it was a simple heart shape. In the late 1800's when Scottish Jewellery was very much in vogue, the Luckenbooth brooch became the fashion in Edinburgh, named after the tarding stalls that lined the Royal Mile in Edinburgh where cheap pins were purchased as keepsakes to departing soldiers.  The brooches transformed into elaborate decorative pins, often enameled or set with gemstones and with elaborate crown tops such as this one.

  • Condition Notes

In very good condition. It is possible in this piece that 2 pieces of the hardstone in the shield have been replaced.

This is a second hand antique jewellery piece and will have some imperfections. Antique jewellery was primarily hand crafted(modern jewellery is more often than not cast made). They are therefore unique pieces.
