Synopsis
In the later part of the 20th century a team of archaeologists, historians and environmental scientists from Sheffield University explored the Island of Barra and in the process recorded hundreds of previously unknown sites and monuments. This volume focuses on their work on the rocky peninsula of Tangaval on the south-western corner of the island on the western most margin of Europe, perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a record of almost 250 sites and monuments ranging from the first rock shelter from around 4000 BC to the abandoned settlements from which the Macneils sailed to new homes in America and Australasia in the mid-19th century.
