  • Additional Product Information

There were many travellers to the Scottish Islands during the 18th & 19th century, most overwhelmed by the wilderness and beauty they  encountered.  George Clayton Atkinson, a keen naturalist from Newcastle, is one of the least well known, however during his trips in 1831 & 1833, he recorded in a detailed diary his experiences in the Western Isles, Skye & St Kilda, whilst his friend and artist, William Train, recorded in rich watercolours and drawings what they saw.

David A. Quine, in a labour of love, has managed to decipher the old notebooks provided him by members of the family of Atkinson and provided an insight into their experiences.
