John Francis Campbell of Islay (1821–1885) also known as Iain Òg Ìle was a Scottish folklorist and Celtic scholar. He was born on the Isle of Islay in Scotland and later moved to Edinburgh. He studied law at the University of Glasgow and later worked in London. He was a prolific writer and collector of folklore, writing books such as West Highland Tales (1860), Popular Tales of the West Highlands (1860-1862), and The Fians (1872). He was also a leading researcher in Celtic philology, and his work in this field included the Linguistic Survey of the Gaelic Dialects of Scotland (1876). He was a founding member of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1864. He died in London in 1885.
Condition Notes
Overall in good condition with some fade to the cover boards as well as rubbing to the cloth and with a few light stains. Inside the book remains well bound with bright and clean pages throughout.
