  • Additional Product Information

David Gray was born in Kirkintilloch in 1838, the son of a handloom weaver and died at the age of 23  in 1861. He attended Glasgow University before making his way to London. In his introduction John Ferguson tells the story of how the poet arrived in London expecting to meet up with a friend who failed to turn up. He ended up sleeping the night in Hyde Park where he caught a heavy cold which inevitably developed into consumption from which he utlimately died.

John Ferguson describes the poetry of Gray as touching "the heart," clinging to "the memory" and "profoundly human."
