William Sydney Graham (1918–1986) was born in Greenock and after working as an Engineer in Glasgow in 1947 he won the Atlantic Award for Literature and became a full time writer and academic travelling widely in the U.S.A.
In 1944 he lived for a short time in Cornwall and the poems in Malcolm Monney's Land reflect his experiences of the people and landscape of Cornwall.
