John Spreul or Bass John (1646-1722) was the apothecary in Glasgow. Famously imprisoned for 6 years on Bass Rock(hence his nickname) he was primarily a trader and negotiator and made money in fish curing and pearls and trading with England. He was also involved in the failed central American Darien Scheme.
Condition Notes
The overall quality of the book is good.
The Cover boards are clean with a slight bubble under the cloth on the front one. There is a tear on the spine by the title - see image. There is some bumping of the corners.
There are 2 pleasant book plates on each of the front end papers.
The inside pages are bright and clean throughout,.
