  • Additional Product Information

Publisher James M'Kie or James McKie(1816–1891) was one of the great collectors of Burnsiana which is now housed by East Ayrshire Council Arts and Museums Service.

James M'kie became well aware of the scarcity of the original works published during Burns' lifetime and felt that Burn's many admirers would welcome the opportunity to own exact reproductions of these orginal works. So between 1866 and 1886 he produced at least sixteen editions with variants, limiting each publication to 600 copies and all produced in the familair original bindings of blue boards & paper spines.  The publications were highly regarded with all the copies sold by subscription prior to printing.

This edition is a facsimile of the famous original Kilmarnock edition printed by John Wilson from 1786(MDCCLXXXVI) which at the last census only 86 were known to exist.  It consists of a short preface, 44 poems and glossary. This facsimile is no 362 of a limited print of 600 and published in 1867 and signed by James M'kie.
