This is a fine and somewhat rare provinical 19th century Quaich - a silver bowl is mounted on oak carved with decorative bands of a celtic plaited rope design around the outside and on the handles with protruding silver ends to finish.

    The word Quaich comes form the Gaelic word "cuach" (cup or bowl). It is often referred to as a friendship or love cup generally with two handles although 3 or 4 handle quaiches have been made.  Sharing the cup demonstrates a trust between 2 individuals or groups of people. You can fill the cup with a drink of your choice however it is usually whisky.

    There are no makers marks or hallmarks on this Quaich as was often the case with mid-century Victorian silverware.
