A small silver & horn Quaich by William Dunningham hallmarked Edinburgh, 1907
An Edwardian silver mounted horn Scottish Quaich, by William Dunningham & Co, Edinburgh 1907, with a hallmarked silver medallion engraved with 'Scuab AS'I' (meaning 'quaff it' or 'drink up') , with cut amethyst stones mounted in silver on each handle.

The word Quaich comes form the Gaelic word "cuach" (cup or bowl). It is often referred to as a friendship or love cup generally with two handles although 3 or 4 handle quaiches have been made. Sharing the cup demonstrates a trust between 2 individuals or groups of people. You can fill the cup with a drink of your choice however it is usually whisky.

This is a beautiful Quaich in fine condition - the horn is unusually translucent with a fine patination.
