    This superb edition covers the complete watercolours by artist Kenneth MacLeay of  Scottish retainers and clansmen commissioned by Queen Victoria and first published in a small printing in 1872.

    In 1870, "Mr Mitchell, Publisher to the Queen" produced two large leatherbound volumes of magnificent watercolour portraits by Kenneth Macleay RSA. Measuring a massive 22 x 18 inches (57 x 47cms) they contain 31 portraits of 57 individuals

    In 1986 the then Queen Elizabeth II granted licence for these watercolours to be reproduced and published in this hardback edition

    The illustrations in this edition are taken directly from the original watercolours which are preserved in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle. With extensive notes on the tartans and the subjects in the watercolors reproduced in 31 full page color plates.

    Kenneth Macleay (1802-1878) originated from the west coast town of Oban.
