The author was Parish Minister at the Kirk of Sanct Ternan, Arbuthnott from 1946-1951 and felt compelled to write a history of of the church and how throughout the centuries it was bound up with the daily life of the parishioners. The church of St Ternan was dedicated in 1242 and is one of the most complete medieval churches in the north east of Scotland
