  • Additional Product Information

Alexander Nicolson (1827–1893) was a Scottish lawyer originally from Husabost in Skye. Apart from his interest in poetry and song his interests were varied  - he was a pioneer of climbing in the Cuillin hills of Skye, and in 1873 made the first recorded ascent of Sgùrr Alasdair(subsequently named after him).

He was a scholar of Scottish Gaelic & Greek and wrote a Gaelic version of the Bible as well as a collection of Gaelic Proverbs.

His better known poems :"The British Ass" and "a Highland marching song," both  feature in this pocket sized volume ideal to pack in your bag!

There is a short "memoir" about the author by Walter Smith as a preface to the verses.
