Synopsis
Both these volumes were originally published seperately in 1986 (i) and then in 1987 (II). The author's aim was to establish that despite the growthof the City there still remained villages within the City each with their own distinct characteristics
Volume I - focuses on North Edinburgh. Costorphine: famous for cream, castle and Kirk. Cramond: the ancient Roman fortress. Davidson's Manins: the ancient village of muttonhole. Dean: home of the millers, baxters and weavers.
Volume II - focuses on South Edinburgh. Burdiehouse and Straiton; once famous for limestone and shale. Colinton: the home of JAmes Gillespie. Gilmerton: for the Cove, the Cross and the Drum. Juniper Green: busy hinterland to the valley of the mills. Liberton: ancient Christian community. Longstone and Slateford: criss-crossed by road, rail and water transport. Morningside and then Swanston, the home of Robert Louis Stevenson.
Condition Notes
Two very good copies of this Limited edition of 500 of each volume. Both have very tiday original dustcovers and both have limited edition plates signed by the author on the inside end paper.
